A Valentine's Day Story

How does a couple that's been together forever celebrate Valentine's Day? We visit our accountant.

Romantic, I know.

It's sad to say, but with two careers and two kids, romance sometimes takes a backseat to everything else. We have to fit stuff in where we can. Thing is, we've been together for so long that things like fancy dinners and gifts seem unimportant.

This is our 24th Valentine's Day. Yes, I've been melting into that dreamy blue gaze since high school and I realize how pathetic that sounds. But I knew he was the one from the moment I saw him. The skinny skater boy with long hair and a rebellious smirk stole my heart in the hallway of our high school without even knowing it. He was a senior and he was taken. I was a lowly freshman with no bod and a mountain of metal tees. It was a stupid crush and that was all.

Yet, one random Saturday night found me in the front seat of his car. Did I mention he drove a 1965 Mustang? *sigh* My adolescent heart soared with the rumbling engine. I was too nervous to string together a coherent sentence, but he was charming and sweet, and adorably shy.

At the end of the date, he asked, "So when can I see you again?" to which I replied, "When do you want to?" He dropped his gaze and, whisking his thumb across my knuckles replied, "Every second of every day."

That was it. I was in love.

My cool AF skater boy grew up to be the king of the computer nerds. Dependable and strong, an amazing dad, a great husband, and a man I never stopped loving in spite of the ups and downs of everyday life.

This Valentine's Day, we're doing our taxes. But I don't care because we're doing them together.
